Shop App Cost: What a Small Shop Pays in 2026

Shop app cost explained for a one-location store: what setup and the monthly fee cover, what raises the price, and a worked example you can copy.

Shop app cost comes down to three numbers: a one-time setup fee, a monthly fee, and the length of the contract. For a one-location shop, our Kin App is $199 a month plus $1,500 setup, with a 12 month minimum. Anything with several locations or staff tools is a custom job and starts at $25,000. The rest of this post shows what sits behind those numbers so you can compare any quote you get.

Key takeaways

  • Kin App is $199 a month plus $1,500 setup. Kin App Pro is $399 a month plus $3,500 setup. Both have a 12 month minimum and cover one location.
  • Several locations or staff tools means a custom quote, from $25,000.
  • Judge any quote by what the monthly fee covers, not by its size.

How much does a shop app cost?

It depends on what the app has to do. We sell three tiers, and every price below is posted on our site.

Kin App Kin App Pro Custom App
Monthly $199 $399 $450 care, 3 months included
Setup $1,500 $3,500 From $25,000
Locations One One Several
Contract 12 month minimum 12 month minimum Half to start, half at launch

Kin App covers a menu or catalog, hours, directions, a loyalty card and push notifications you send yourself. Kin App Pro adds order ahead and pickup paid in the app, events with tickets or booking, and live stock from your register where it shares counts.

What does the monthly fee actually cover?

An app is not finished when it launches. Apple releases new versions of iOS, and the app has to keep working on them. Our monthly price covers backend hosting and push delivery, every iOS release (test, fix, rebuild, resubmit), bug fixes, and two edit requests a month for the app or the website.

Ask any studio the same question. Whatever the monthly number is, find out who pays when a new iOS version breaks a screen.

Why is there a setup fee on top of the monthly fee?

Setup is the work of building your app from your own menu, prices, hours and photos before anyone downloads it. It is a one-time cost and it is the reason the monthly fee can stay low. If a studio charges nothing up front, ask where that cost went.

What makes a shop app cost more?

Four things push the price up:

  1. More than one location. A second location moves you from Kin App Pro to a custom quote.
  2. Staff tools. Back-room intake, want lists and bookings are custom work.
  3. Payments inside the app. Order ahead and pickup paid in the app is part of Pro, not the base plan.
  4. Extras. An AI assistant that answers customers and sends restock and pickup alerts is +$99 a month. A Premium website in place of the included Core site is +$150 a month.

Our custom quotes so far run from $25,000 to $45,000.

Is a shop app worth the money? A worked example

This is an illustrative example. Replace every number with your own.

Assume your shop has 200 regular customers. Assume 40 of them add the loyalty card and each comes back one extra time a month because of it. Assume the average sale is $25 and your margin on a sale is 40 percent.

  • Extra visits a month: 40
  • Extra sales a month: 40 x $25 = $1,000
  • Extra margin a month: $1,000 x 40 percent = $400

In this example the extra margin of $400 a month is more than the $199 monthly fee. That leaves $201 a month, or $2,412 over 12 months, against the $1,500 setup. So the app is paid back inside the first year. Change any assumption and the answer changes. If only 15 customers return, the extra margin is $150 a month, which is less than the fee, and the app loses money. If your own numbers do not come out well, the app is not the right first step, and a better website may be.

What should you ask before you sign for a shop app?

Copy this list for any studio, including us:

  • What is the monthly price, the setup price and the minimum term?
  • Who handles every iOS update, and is it included?
  • How many edit requests a month do I get?
  • Can I leave, and what happens to my customer list?
  • What is not included that I will want in six months?

Apple reviews every app before it goes live, so ask who deals with that. Apple publishes its rules in the App Store Review Guidelines.

Frequently asked questions

Does my shop need an app or just a website?

A website helps people find you. An app helps the people who already know you come back. If you do not have a good website yet, start there. Our Kin App includes a Core website, so you get both. If you only need the site, see our website plans.

Is the app price per location?

Yes. Both Kin App plans cover one location. A second location makes it a custom job.

Can I see an app before I pay?

We have demo apps for a coffee shop, a multi-store retail brand, a collectibles shop and a gym. Payments, orders and stock in the demos are simulated, and they are spec builds, not live client apps.

What should you do next?

Look at the plans on our app pricing and write down which tier matches your shop. If you want a second opinion on the math for your own numbers, get in touch and we will go through it with you.
