How Much Does Local SEO Cost for a Small Shop?

How much does local SEO cost? What you can do free from Google's guide, what our +$50/mo add-on is, and what to ask any agency to write down.

Most owners who ask how much does local SEO cost get a vague range and a sales call. We will not give you a range we cannot source. Some of the work costs nothing. Our own add-on costs $50 a month. Anything above that is a quote you should ask to see in writing.

How much do local SEO services cost?

We have no honest industry average to hand you. The ranges on most agency pages carry no named source or year, so we leave them out.

What we can price is our own work. Advanced SEO is a $50 a month add-on to a Kin website. That is the only SEO price we sell.

For any other seller, treat the price as a quote for a list of tasks. If the list is missing, the price means nothing.

How much does local SEO cost per month for a small business?

Add the add-on to the site it sits on. The monthly price of the site already covers hosting and two edit requests a month.

Plan Site per month Setup (one time) Advanced SEO add-on
Core website $79 $149 +$50 per month
Premium website $249 $299 +$50 per month

Setup fees are paid once and do not change. The add-on is billed monthly on top of the site price.

This is an illustrative example, not a client case. Assume a one-location coffee shop on Core with the add-on. It pays the $149 setup once. Then it pays the $79 site price and the $50 add-on each month.

We do not promise a ranking result. No honest seller can.

Does SEO cost money, or can an owner do it free?

Part of it is free, and you can do it yourself. Google's own SEO starter guide covers clear page titles, short descriptions and helpful content. Those are things you can write today at no cost.

Here is a checklist you can copy:

  • Give each page its own plain title that names the shop and the service.
  • Write one short description per page that says what a visitor will find.
  • Put your hours, address and phone number in text on the page, not only in an image.
  • Write for the customer who walks in, not for a search box.
  • Read the guide once a year, and fix what is out of date.

Our own take: free work covers the basics, and it takes your time. A paid add-on buys back that time. It does not buy a place on page one.

Why is SEO so expensive?

When a price is high, the cost is usually a person's time. Someone has to write, check and update the pages.

We think the real problem is not the price. It is a price with no list of tasks behind it. A $50 add-on with a clear list beats a large retainer with a vague one.

Are SEO services worth it for a local shop?

It depends on what you get in writing. Ask any seller these questions before you pay:

  1. What exact tasks do you do each month?
  2. Who owns the site and the accounts if I stop paying?
  3. What will you report to me, and how often?
  4. Do you promise any ranking? (If yes, walk away.)
  5. What is the monthly price, and is there a minimum term?

If the answers are clear, the service may be worth it. If they are vague, it is not.

What does a website need before local SEO pays off?

It needs a site worth finding. A page with no hours, no menu and no photos gives a visitor nothing to act on.

Start with the site. Our post on what a small business website costs lays out the one-time and monthly prices side by side. You can also see Core and Premium sites before you decide.

If you want regulars to come back after they find you, the Kin App plans with a Core site add a loyalty card and push notifications. The demos on that page are spec builds, not client work.

FAQ

Is Advanced SEO included in the website price? No. It is a separate +$50 a month add-on.

Can I skip the add-on and use Google's guide instead? Yes. The guide linked above is free, and the checklist is a fair start.

Do you guarantee a ranking? No. We do not claim any ranking result.
